I’m Katharine Abel Smith and I set up KAS Films, a wedding filmmaking company, four years ago. I specialise in creating authentic wedding films with a relaxed, discreet approach.
I'd now love to help anyone else interested in a career (or side hustle) in wedding filmmaking.
I’m offering exclusive 1:1 mentoring sessions to help anyone else interested to build their skills, confidence and achieve their filmmaking goals.
All you need is a passion to learn, emotional awareness, and an ability to be calm (or, at least appear, calm!) under pressure. I can teach the rest!
A bit about me and KAS Films
After graduating from Durham University, I completed an MA in Broadcast Journalism at City University before working in newsrooms and then as a producer/ director on BAFTA award-winning documentaries for nine years.
Wanting more control over my life and time, I decided to film a friend’s wedding in 2022 to see what it was like. I haven't looked back since.
I've learned a huge amount in a short space of time, building a business which receives, on average, 700 enquires a year.
I recently won Breakthrough Filmmaker of the Year, 2025 and was shortlisted Best Documentary-Style Wedding Film.
The joy of preserving memories for people means it never feels like work.
